At the meeting, Mr. Christopher Abrams talked about results of some USAID-funded social projects in the province in the past time and preparation for other projects in the coming time, including building local capacity for climate change adaptation and natural resources protection project, livelihood support project for people in the area of agricultural and forestry production. The USAID especially pay much attention to the livelihood support project to help people stabilize their lives and increase production.

On behalf of the provincial leaders, Vice Chairman Phuong highly appreciated USAID cooperation and support in Thua Thien Hue in the past time. Vice Chairman Phuong said Vietnam’s National Target Programme on Building New-style Rural Areas also focus on environmental protection and climate change adaptation. Therefore, in order to avoid duplication and waste of financial support, he suggested USAID give the province technical assistances for solving biodiversity conservation issues and establishing environmental monitoring systems aiming at helping the province get specific data on climate change to implement the local task of socio-economic development.

Vice Chairman Phuong asked related departments coordinate closely with USAID to make the most suitable project bringing the best socio-economic effects to the localities.
