Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Dung receives Director of World Wild Fund for nature (WWF) organization in Asia Pacific region

On April 9, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Dung hosted a reception for Mr. Prasanna De Silva, Director of WWF organization in Asia Pacific region and WWF delegation to discuss the result of WWF-sponsored projects in Thua Thien Hue province and upcoming plan.

According to the cooperation document between Thua Thien Hue and WWF in Vietnam, WWF will aid over USD 3,5 million to deploy 06 projects including "Carbon reservation and forest biodiversity conservation" in Sao La Nature Reserve, the expanded area of Bach Ma National Park and the green corridor in Nam Dong district, A Luoi district (USD 2,7 million) and the project on promoting the role of community and social organizations in reservation in Central Green Annamites - Thua Thien Hue province (nearly USD 300.000), etc. Besides, WWF also grants USD 105.000 to deploy 7 work packages within the framework of "Green Annamites" project in Thua Thien Hue province.

In 2019-2023 period, WWF will cooperate with foreign partners to deploy approved projects, especially the second phase of "Forest Biodiversity Conservation" project. Mr. Prasanna De Silva hoped that the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province will soon give an approval, so that the project will be deployed in May 2019.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Dung highly appreciated and extended sincere gratitude to WWF for its support and contribution to Thua Thien Hue province in the past time. Vice Chairman emphasized that WWF projects not only contribute to conserving forest biodiversity in the context of climate change, but also create sustainable livelihood for locals living in project area as well as contribute to Thua Thien Hue socio-economic development.

Regards to the second phase of "Forest biodiversity conservation", Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Dung made commitment to assign relevant departments to appraise project, submit provincial People's Committee for approval and kick off the project as planned. As informed by Vice Chairman Nguyen Dung, Thua Thien Hue is deploying "Green Sunday" project with an aim to raise public awareness of environmental protection. To better carry out the project in the coming time , Vice Chairman hoped that WWF will concern and join in the project.
