The 21st Congress of the Indo-pacific Prehistory Association launched

On September 23rd, the 21st Congress of the Indo-pacific Prehistory Association (IPPA) was launched by Hue Monuments Conservation Center, Indo-pacific Prehistory Association and Institute of Archaeology - Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences. The event attracted over 700 researchers and post-graduate students from 35 countries including Vietnam.

Speaking at IPPA Congress opening session, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Assoc. Ph. D. Nguyen Dung warmly welcomed scientists to the congress. This is an opportunity for scientists to learn in further about Hue Citadel - the home to cultural and historical heritages. Vice Chairman kindly informed that Hue cultural heritages overcame emergency period and have recovered step by step. As assessed by UNESCO, Hue heritage conservation has moved to a period of stability and sustainable development, which can be seen as the effort of the whole Vietnamese nation in cooperation with international associations. Thua Thien Hue province is cooperating with the Indo-pacific Prehistory Association and the Institute of Archaeology – Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences to organize the 21stCongress of the Indo-Pacific Prehistory Association. This shows the concern as well as determination of the Vietnamese government generally and Thua Thien Hue province particularly in accompanying with IPPA and the nations together with heritage preservation associations. 

IPPA opening session

At the opening session, Director of Monuments Conservation Center Phan Thanh Hai presented the presentation on "Hue cultural heritages and conservation"; Chief of the Institute of Archaeology – Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences Ph. D. Nguyen Giang Hai discussed "Recent researches on Vietnamese Archaeology". At the event, delegates listened to papers which cover a variety of topics from the most ancient sites in Indo-pacific region to new theoretical methods, high technology in field research and laboratory analysis, to essential issues about cultural heritages, education, and community engagement.

IPPA congress will be held from 23rd to 29th September, 2018. After the opening session, IPPA's official meeting will be run to discuss issues related to the Association and Association members. On the following days, delegates will visit Hue world heritages and observe excellent monuments which are the result of tireless conservation efforts over the decades.
