At the working session, German experts provided information regarding to FloodAdaptVn project. Accordingly, the project aims to mitigate flood risk in recent and future context by executing ecosystem-based adaptation and risk mitigation strategies. In detail, the project aims to study in further and assess the causes and changes of flood risk at present and in the future. Besides, the project would further study factors as well as barriers that stop ecosystem-based options and insurance measures from being applied in risk mitigation and flood adaptation. The tool which helps users to decide prioritized measures among risk mitigation and adaptation measures is also developed.

Having provided information regarding to the project, German experts exchanged and discussed the experience of disaster and flood prevention in Thua Thien Hue province. German experts kindly informed that the delegation would develop tools to support the province in dealing with climate change. Tools developed on the basis of different climate change scenarios would help assess the impact of disaster and flood during constructing the urban area.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Phuong discusses with German experts

According to Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Phuong, Thua Thien Hue province is now making effort to develop the central urban area, Hue city and surrounding satellite towns. However, the construction of satellite towns in coastal region is being seriously affected by climate change, sea level rise and erosion. Of all, coastal erosion results in potential dangers such as new sea gates formed effecting the continent directly.

Vice Chairman Nguyen Van Phuong hoped that German experts would advise the province of the areas affected by sea-level rise and climate change. On this basis, the province would figure out development measures and orientations in the time to come. The province would also research crop shift, ensure livelihood and stabilize local life. Vice Chairman kindly requested Departments and agencies to cooperate, provide information regarding to local climate change projects and create every favorable condition for German experts to effectively deploy FloodAdaptVN project.
